Yono by SBI Joins Hands with Shivrai Technologies, to Launch Small Farm Accounting App, Farmizo Khata
Shivrai Technologies, Indian AgTech company, recently announced the launch of their B2C Farm accounting mobile application, Farmizo Khata.

  • Joining hands with Yono by SBI, they aim to help farmers across the country to manage their accounts efficiently, thus cutting down on losses. Shivrai also owns their own B2B brand, FarmERP.

Kazakhstan Davis Cup tennis player banned for corruption
A tennis player who represented Kazakhstan in the Davis Cup has been banned for 10 years after admitting a string of corruption charges.

  • The International Tennis Integrity Agency said that Roman Khassanov admitted offences which took place from 2014 through 2018. He has been banned from attending any official tennis events and fined USD 100,000, with all but USD 25,000 of that sum suspended.

Italian Open: Iga Swiatek wins Women’s Singles title
In Tennis, Polish teenager Iga Swiatek has won the Women’s Singles title of Italian Open. 15th seed Swiatek defeated ninth seed Czech Karolina Pliskova 6-0, 6-0 with what is known as a “double bagel” score in the summit clash in Rome that lasted just 46 minutes.

  • The 19-year-old reigning French Open champion had entered the finals after trouncing 17-year-old American Coco Gauff 7-6, 6-3 in the last four.

Nagaland Conservationist Nuklu Phom Gets Prestigious Whitley Awards 2021
An environmentalist from Nagaland’s remote Longleng district has won this year’s Whitley Awards 2021, also known as the Green Oscar.

  • Nuklu Phom’s name, along with that of five others, was announced in a virtual award ceremony organised by the UK-based Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN).
  • The award recognises Phom’s efforts at establishing a new biodiversity peace corridor changing the fate of Amur Falcons, which come to roost in Nagaland each year, from being hunted by locals.
  • Worth £40,000, the award is for creating a new network of community-owned forests to protect Amur Falcons and increase biodiversity in Nagaland

Andrea Meza Crowned 69th Miss Universe 2020
Miss Mexico Andrea Meza was crowned as the 69th Miss Universe in the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood Hotel or famously known as the Guitar hotel in Florida .

  • The model who is also a software engineer, has become the third Mexican woman to hold the title.Meza was preceded by Miss Universe Zozobini Tunzi of South Africa.
  • Andrea had to compete with 73 other gorgeous women from all over the world for the coveted title out of which Miss India Adeline Castelino was also being considered as a strong contender.

Former Saurashtra Pacer And BCCI Match Referee Rajendrasinh Jadeja Passes Away Due to COVID-19
Former Saurashtra pacer and BCCI match referee Rajendrasinh Jadeja has died due to COVID-19. He was 66.

  • Rajendrasinh was one of the finest right-arm medium pacers and could bat as well. He played 50 first-class matches and 11 List A games, taking 134 and 14 wickets respectively.He scored 1,536 runs in first-class matches and 104 runs in List A cricket.
  • Rajendrasinh served as the BCCI’s official referee in 53 first-class matches, 18 List A games and 34 T20s.He also served as selector, coach and team manager of Saurashtra Cricket Association.

Arjuna winning TT player V Chandrasekhar passes away
Three-time National table tennis champion and former International paddler V. Chandrasekar passed away due to COVID-related complications. He was 64.

  • A 1982 Arjuna Award winner, Chandra was popularly known, was a three-time national champion.He was the current president of Tamizhaga Table Tennis Association (TTTA).Chandra has been coaching young paddlers for the last two decades.
  • Chandra’s autobiography with Seetha Srikanth, My fightback from Death’s Door published in 2006, was well received as it frankly recounted in some detail certain important incidents in his playing career and his battle with the hospital, among other things.

Former Jathedar of Akal Takht, Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti passes away 
Former Akal Takht jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti died of a heart attack in Amritsar. He was 80.

  • Vedanti, who served as jathedar of the highest temporal seat of Sikhs from 2000 to 2008, was well-versed in Gurbani grammar. He also served for a long time as the head granthi of the Golden Temple.
  • During his tenure Vedanti had taken several landmark decisions. In 2003, the former jathedar had approved the Nanakshahi calendar, prepared by Canada-based Sikh scholar Pal Singh Purewal. He had also declared Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale a martyr 19 years after Operation Bluestar.
  • He was also the first jathedar who declared to commemorate the death anniversaries of the Sikh militants.

Senior journalist Sunil Jain passes away
Senior journalist and Managing Editor of Financial Express, Sunil Jain passed away due to Covid-19 related complications.

  • Jain was worked for several publications and was a well known business journalist and editor.

Congress MP Rajiv Satav passes away
Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Satav died following post-COVID-19 complications after 24 days of hospitalisation.

  • 46-year-old Satav was elected to Rajya Sabha in March last year, for what was his first term in the upper house.
  • He has also served as a Lok Sabha MP from 2014 to 2019 from the Hingoli Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra and has been a legislator in the Maharashtra Assembly.

Distinguished mathematician Padma Bhushan Prof. M S Narasimhan passes away
Distinguished mathematician Padma Bhushan Prof. M S Narasimhan FRS passes away. He was 88.

  • Famous for Narasimhan-Seshadri theorem, he made pioneering contributions to differential & algebraic geometry.He played key role in development of Mathematics in India.
  • He was the only Indian to be awarded with King Faisal International Prize for Science & First Chair of National Board for Higher Mathematics.
  • Prof. M S Narasimhan contributions are in the areas of Algebraic Geometry, Differential Geometry, Representation Theory of Lie groups and Partial Differential Equations.

World Telecommunication And Information Society Day
World Telecommunication and Information Society Day ​(WTISD) has been celebrated annually every 17 May since 1969 to mark the founding of ITU and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.

  • The theme for this year is ‘Accelerating digital transformation in challenging times’ focusing on the critical role of information and communication technologies for continued functioning of societies during COVID-19 pandemic.
